gIVING AMBITION INSTITUTIONAL FORM.

Epigraph is an interdisciplinary strategy and design practice working with institutions at important moments of creation, growth and change.

We connect strategic direction, institutional narrative and organizational design to turn ambition into practice.

WHEN PARTNERS
INVITE uS IN.

We work alongside founders, executives and leadership teams responsible for building, growing and stewarding institutions, enterprises and significant initiatives.

They tend to call us when the ambition is clearer than the path, and the choices made now will shape what becomes possible next.

What could this become?
A promising idea is gaining momentum, but the possibilities are still open. Before more money, time and credibility are committed, the choices need to become clear.

CREATION

GROWTH

What is worth pursuing?
New opportunities and demands can make what once felt focused harder to hold together. The challenge becomes deciding what is worth pursuing—and what isn't.

CHANGE

What should change, and what should remain?
A new strategy, leadership transition or shift in circumstances can require an organization to move differently. The question is what must change and where continuity matters.

IN PRACTICE.

Drawn from two decades of work with leaders and institutions.

PHILANTHROPY · ARAB REGION · INSTITUTION BUILDING

How do we build an institution FOR GENERATIONAL IMPACT?

A Gulf-based philanthropic organization was setting its ambitions for the next decade while preparing to expand across the Arab region. Expansion raised a larger question: what kind of institution would it need to become to create the impact it imagined?

We worked with leadership to articulate the convictions shaping its approach to impact, bringing together perspectives from employees, board members and partners with research into the wider philanthropic landscape. The work shaped investment priorities, an operating model and the organizational design required to bring its ambitions to life.

What changed: A clearer institutional direction became the foundation for building the organization itself—shaping how it would invest, organize and develop the capabilities required to turn ambition into lasting impact.

FAMILY ENTERPRISE · UAE · ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH

How do we SCALE an organization built on discretion and care?

A private organization was growing quickly. Its standard of excellence was deeply understood by experienced people, but much of that knowledge lived in instinct, practice and memory. Growth created a challenge: how could that intelligence travel without reducing it to a rulebook?

We helped leadership make that knowledge visible and translate it into values, behaviors, training, incentives and operating practices—so people could exercise judgment rather than simply follow rules.

What changed: Culture, talent and operations began working as one system, allowing the organization's standards to travel across a growing enterprise without losing the discretion and care they depended on.

FORTUNE GLOBAL 500 · NORTH AMERICA · INNOVATION

HOW DO WE EVOLVE WITHOUT LOSING WHAT MADE US DISTINCTIVE?

A global company was shaping its next generation of products during a leadership transition. Much of what made the business distinctive still lived in founder instinct, brand heritage and deeply held beliefs. The challenge was to make that inheritance usable across the organization without freezing the company in its past.

We combined that inherited intelligence with cultural insight, customer research and business strategy to identify the company's enduring sources of value and translate them into strategic pillars and decision systems teams could use across the business.

What changed: What had lived largely as intuition became a shared system for making choices at scale—helping leaders distinguish what to preserve, what to reinvent and where to place future investment.

HOW WE WORK

WE BEGIN WITH THE QUESTION.

The most consequential questions rarely belong to a single discipline.

We look closely at what is already at work: the evidence, experience, history, relationships and realities shaping the institution and the choices in front of it.

We bring that context into conversation with ambition—exploring what could become possible, what matters enough to pursue, and what it will take to bring it into being.

ABOUT.

ADRIENNE MATTHEWS

Founder & Principal

Adrienne Matthews founded Epigraph after more than two decades working with institutions at moments when new possibilities are emerging and consequential choices have to be made about what comes next.

Her work has moved through strategic communications and brand, business leadership, product innovation, strategy and organizational transformation, spanning the US, Europe and the Arab region in roles both inside organizations and alongside them. Before founding Epigraph, Adrienne was a Partner at SYPartners, where she led strategy and transformation work with CEOs, founders and leadership teams across North America and the UAE.

Across that work, Adrienne has shaped what organizations build, where they invest and how they evolve. Whether developing new products and experiences, guiding periods of growth and reinvention, translating philanthropic ambition into institutional direction and investment priorities, or leading cross-cultural public initiatives, her approach is strategic and deeply attentive to context—to the histories, priorities and points of view already at work, and what it will take for new ambitions to become real, lived and sustained.

For more than fifteen years, Adrienne has also helped steward the archival and philanthropic legacy of Miriam Matthews, California’s first credentialed African American librarian, whose collection documents an extraordinary history of Black cultural and civic life. Through preservation, research and public engagement, that work has deepened her interest in how legacies are carried forward and made meaningful to new generations.

WOrking together.

Every Epigraph engagement is led by Adrienne Matthews from the first conversation through the work itself. A trusted interdisciplinary network brings additional perspectives, expertise and capabilities to the table.
